SNOW HILL HIGH SCHOOL

SHHS Outdoor Academy has had fun learning about our local keystone species and ecosystems in the last 2 weeks. We have explored Chincoteague National Wild Refuge and Public Landing and learned about the importance of marshes and barrier islands. We also had the privilege of learning about local agriculture and mariculture at Vessey Orchard and Baywater Seafood. Students got first-hand experience understanding the process of farm to table food businesses. A huge thank you to these community partners for sharing this information with us!

SHHS Outdoor Summer Academy had a great day touring the Horn Point Oyster Hatchery-University of MD Lab. We learned about the process of growing oysters for restoration and commercial use as well as the importance of this organism as a keystone species to the health of our bay. We then ventured to the Harriet Tubman National Park where students learned about Harriet Tubman as a freedom fighter and conductor of the Underground Railroad. Our area is rich with culture and history and we are grateful to be able to share these experiences with our students, thanks to our community partners.

I love feeding the kids, as well as working alongside the best staff and faculty on the Eastern Shore.

A Proud Moment
In my first year, I was able to increase participation by 50%. This meant more children were nourished and well fed.

What People May Not Realize
Customer service is key. You must bring a bright smiling character to the table every day. We want these kids to be excited and feel secure about school nutrition.

A Proud Moment
As the principal’s secretary, I take a lot of pride in making sure everything for Teacher Appreciation Week runs smoothly. I love being behind the scenes to help make things happen. Seeing everything come together—from coordinating schedules to setting up events—and watching the staff feel appreciated and able to enjoy the moment without any stress reminds me how important my role is and makes me incredibly proud.

What People May Not Realize
One thing people might not realize is how much coordination and behind-the-scenes work goes into every event. From budgeting and ordering to timing, setup, and making sure every detail is just right.

What She Loves Most About Her School Community
What I love most about our school community is the strong sense of support and connection.
