Ms. Zena Tunnell is a Special Education Teacher at Stephen Decatur High School. She has been teaching for 15 years. She graduated from Salisbury University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Middle School Math, Grades 6-8. She received a master's degree in Special Education from Wilmington University and, additionally, has earned 30+ credits in master level reading courses. “I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I originally wanted to be a middle school math teacher, but during my student teaching, Maureen Capelli, a special education teacher, observed me in the classroom, and told me I had a special gift because not everyone has the patience to work with struggling learners. I took the special education praxis and that same year I was offered a position at Stephen Decatur High School. My advice to students would be to set goals for what you want and be ready to take the necessary steps to get yourself there!”
