Holland named state winner in InvestWrite 💰
Junior Amy Holland was named winner of the Maryland Investwrite Essay Competition - a competition offered by the Maryland Council on Economic Education (MCEE) challenging students to reflect on long-term investing and personal finance.
The Investwrite competition follows students’ participation in the Stock Market Game, a simulated classroom experience where students in grades 4-12 create and manage a hypothetical $100,000 portfolio of stocks, bonds and mutual funds. In Investwrite, participating students consider what they’ve learned about wealth creation through investing and explore their understanding of how world and local events can impact markets. Essays illustrate the transformative experience that participating in the Stock Market Game has on students, where they learn through experimenting with investing, reinforcing key principles while competing and having fun.
Amy competed among Maryland students to write the best essay in the high school division. Amy captivated the panel of thousands of expert judges from across the financial services industry with a thoughtful and insightful essay, which can be found here.
Amy and her teacher, business department chair Kurt Marx, were both recognized by the Maryland Council on Economic Education.
Offered by the Maryland Council on Economic Education (MCEE) and the SIFMA Foundation, Investwritebridges classroom learning in math, social studies, and language arts with the practical research and knowledge required for saving, investing and long-term planning.
Said Julie Weaver, MCEE Executive Director, “Amy's essay, and her exciting accomplishment, illustrate the importance and impact of personal finance education. When students understand concepts in saving and investing, they are preparing themselves for lifelong financial health and success."

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
As many in our community are aware, junior Tyler Walsh, a member of our student body, was involved in a very serious pedestrian accident this weekend. Tyler continues to fight through various medical challenges and we, along with his family, are very appreciative of the outpouring of support by our community.
At the same time, we realize the emotional toll this takes on his friends, teammates, and classmates. So, we want to make sure everyone is aware of the mental health and emotional support resources available for this week.
First, SDHS Counselors will be available in the Media Center and in the Guidance Office for students who may need to use their services.
Additionally, Worcester County Health Department and Chesapeake Healthcare will be at school tomorrow and further into the week.
Therapy Dogs will be in the Media Center at 9AM, Noon, and 1:30PM tomorrow. They will also be at school at 9:30AM on Tuesday.
Finally, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) invites students to join in on a special prayer for Tyler and his family Monday morning in the cafeteria at 7:30AM.
If you have questions or would like to request information about our services, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school.
