This weekend, our MJROTC program had the incredible opportunity to visit the National Museum of the Marine Corps, where students deepened their understanding of Marine Corps history while participating in meaningful leadership and team-building activities.

Additionally, students explored the historic town of Harpers Ferry, gaining insight into the vital role it has played in both Marine Corps history and the broader story of the United States.

Experiences like these bring history to life and help develop the leadership skills our students will carry into the future. 🇺🇸 #TrustandBelieve

From classroom to coastline 🌱🌊

Our SHHS Environmental Science students took their learning into the field today, planting marsh grasses they’ve been growing all semester in partnership with the Maryland Coastal Bays Program. These efforts directly support shoreline restoration and help reduce erosion along Assateague Island National Seashore.

Real-world learning. Real impact.

This week, our staff engaged in a powerful collaborative planning session led by our school social worker and assistant principal, Mrs. McGinnis and Mrs. Townsend. Mrs. McGinnis shared valuable insights on restorative practice implementation, bringing back meaningful strategies and takeaways from her experience at the Beyond School Hours Conference. Her learning sparked thoughtful discussion and reflection among our team. Mrs. Townsend then guided staff through an engaging, interactive activity where teachers worked through real-life scenarios and determined whether the appropriate response was to “restore” or “explore.” This hands-on approach encouraged meaningful dialogue and deeper understanding of how restorative practices can be applied in our daily work with students. To close the session, teachers reflected on their current practices and set intentional goals for the week, month, and year ahead. We are proud of the continued commitment of our staff to building strong relationships and fostering a supportive school community. 🩶❤️🦅
